LA LEE LEE PROFILE Leralee Whittle makes dances to intimately address the human condition. She is interested in the porous performer walking the line between authenticity and theatricality. Actions appear and disappear, to reflect changing realities, the changing mind and the emerging spirit. Compelling aspects of human character are revealed in between. Leralee Whittle's dances articulate thinking, feeling and character "states" that reveal some of what humans like to hide. Dancers perform with a transparent body expressing a multitude of human behaviors in crafted contexts. Emphasis is on communicating with body languages that come from the inside out and are spurred by meaning. Dance arises from a reason to move. La Lee Lee Performance encompasses dance as art, dance as symbolism, dance as narrative and dance as activism. It is work that conceptually relates to society, its history and human behaviors contextualized in it. |
